Steve - Garden Centre Manager

Introducing Our Green Thumb Guru: Steve Clarke!

Meet Steve, our Garden Centre Manager at Hambrooks Garden Centre. With an impressive 45 years in the horticulture industry, Steve's passion for plants blossomed from his pre-college days at Hillier Nurseries in 1979.

Fuelling his green ambitions, Steve pursued an HND in Amenity Horticulture at Writtle Agricultural College from 1980 to 1983. He then delved into the world of private gardens, tending to the flora as a sole gardener for two fruitful years.

Steve's roots in the industry deepened as he nurtured herbaceous wonders on a production nursery for a decade. His green thumb took an international turn with a brief but impactful stint at Kings Plant Barn in Auckland, New Zealand.

In the garden centre trade for over 25 years, Steve has cultivated his expertise through roles at Country Gardens and Wyevale. His journey with Hambrooks began back in 2013, initially as the plant area maestro however, in the last two years, he's proudly worn the Garden Centre Manager's hat.

Beyond the professional garden beds, Steve tends to his own personal green oasis, a living testament to 32 years of passionate planting. However, in his own words “Don't expect perfection”—his garden is a lively canvas of horticultural experiments and a true reflection of his down-to-earth nature.

With Steve at the helm, Hambrooks Garden Centre thrives as a haven for both seasoned gardeners and budding plant enthusiasts. Approachable, knowledgeable, and with a hearty love for all things green, Steve Clarke is not just a manager but the heart and soul of our garden paradise. Drop by, say hello, and let Steve guide you on your next green adventure!
