Acer platanoides 'Crimson Sentry', also known as the Noray maple. This beautiful tree is prized for its very dark red/purple leaves in the traditional maple leaf shape. In addition, it bears clusters of small, yellow flowers in spring and dark red and green seeds/fruit in the autumn.
Tending to be narrow and upright in habit, it can reach 12 metres high and about 5 metres across in time. Its architectural quality lends structure, grace and colour to any garden. Fully hardy in the UK, it prefers moist but well-drained soil. It will cope with any aspect, full sun or partial shade.
‘Crimson Sentry’ is low maintenance, requiring no routine pruning. Simply remove diseased, damaged or crossing shoots or branches to tidy for shape as necessary, preferably between November and January when the tree is dormant.
