Fathers' Day Gift Ideas
Fathers’ Day is Sunday 16th June this year (2024), just a few days away now! We asked some of the gents in the Garden Centre team what they would like as a gift, in case it helps inspire you buying for the special man in your life.
A house plant
Yes, we’re as surprised as you are but our gents genuinely said they would love a houseplant for Fathers’ Day! Of course, they would go for something big and dramatic. We have some striking Dracena (dragon tree) for just £24.99, which would made a bold addition to any room, including his Man Cave.
A firepit
Is it a stereotype to suggest that all men like fire? Probably, but there seems to be some truth in it! Rather than just dominating the BBQ, we’d go for a dramatic firepit. On a nice evening, what could be more atmospheric than gathering round to watch the sun go down, perhaps toast a few marshmallows, and enjoy the evening around the fire? We have a selection of firepits (and chimeneas) in stock now. We even have a portable one which doubles up as a BBQ (if your man can’t resist that urge)!
Edging Shears
You’ve just spent the afternoon giving your lawn the perfect stripes of a cricket pitch – to finish it properly, you need some edging shears! Edging shears have long-handles with the cutting blades set a 90°, so you can stand upright but trim horizontally along the edges of lawns and borders. If your man doesn’t have a pair already, and takes pride in his lawn, this is the ideal gift for him. We have edging shears in stock from £42.99.
Quality secateurs
A sharp blade is a gardener’s best friend and our colleagues said they would really appreciate a good quality set of secateurs. A clean, sharp blade ensures that stems are not torn when cut, which reduces the risk of infection in the plant, as well as simply being more efficient. This is one of those occasions when splashing out for a quality pair which will last for ages really is a sensible investment. We have secateurs in stock for £14.99 to £34.99, depending on your budget.
A plant to harvest
If your man isn’t into house plants, how about something for outdoors that produces something to eat (or drink!)? A grape vine will take a year or two to establish well enough to produce grapes but, find the right spot for it, and “Chateau Your House” could be on the cards! If he doesn’t have the patience for grapes, how about an edible quince? An unusual fruit, it makes excellent jelly (or membrillo as the Spanish call it) to go with your cheese and biscuits. Grape vines start from £34.99. We’ve also got a range of citrus, lemons and oranges, with fruit on, so perhaps buy him something he can add to his gin and tonic?
For the man who has everything…
Or is just plain fussy, we also have gift vouchers, so he can have the fun of coming in to choose his own present! Hambrooks vouchers are available in multiples of £5 and we also have National Garden Scheme gift vouchers (which could be a good choice if you need to post something elsewhere in the country).
