(M) Allium Christophii 3L

Sale price£7.99

Known as the ‘Star of Persia, Allium cristophii is a striking, late spring-flowering bulb which will add height and drama to any garden. During June and July, globes of star-shaped, pink-purple flowers seem to hover above their narrow grey-green stems and leaves. Given the right conditions, the flower heads can reach up to 20cm diameter, with the stems up to 40cm tall. The flower heads can be dried for flower-arranging. The entire plant will die back to ground level after flower each autumn, to produce fresh growth again next spring.
Alliums look great in cottage-style gardens, among ornamental grasses or as part of a more Mediterranean-inspired theme.
Alliums prefer full sun and don’t like to sit in very moist soil as the bulbs can rot. They can be grown in pots but will probably do better planted in the garden for the following year. In the ground, they will naturally form clumps over time; these can be lifted and divided, to move around your garden in spring or autumn.
Plants the bulbs 15cm deep and 15cm apart from September to January. Although harmless to most people when handled, please be aware that the bulbs are toxic to humans and animals if eaten.
