Rosa Alecs Red Ht

Sale price£12.99

‘Alec’s Red’ is a gorgeous, cherry red hybrid tea rose with a glorious fragrance. It will bear masses of fully double flowers continuously from July to September, particularly with regular deadheading as older flowers fade. The blooms hold their colour, cope well in strong winds and rain and have a deep, damask perfume. The leaves are a glossy, mid-green and are deciduous.
Preferring full sun, this hybrid tea will grow in any soil as long as it is moist but well-drained; an annual feed or top-dress to keep up the nutrients will be of benefit too. Fully hardy in the UK, it is fairly fast growing but won’t usually reach more than 1 metre in height or spread. As such, it can grow as well in large pots or planters as in beds and borders. It shows strong resistance to mildew and black spot.
Plant as soon as you can, enriching the soil with garden compost or well-rotted manure as you plant. Prune in late winter, just as the rose is beginning to grow again. Pruning encourages growth and better flowering so aim to reduce the strongest stems back to about 15cm from where last year’s growth began; reduce any less vigorous stems to about 10cm. Remove any damaged, diseased or crossing stems too to keep your plant healthy and shapely.
